Think Spring!

Hi Stampers,

I think spring finally is here in Chicago - to say that it was a tough winter here is certainly an understatement - we had snow last Monday!  This was a card I cased from somewhere for my February stamp camp - I used the single stamp Blessed Easter for this card - I actually cut the sentiment off the stamp so I could use them separately - especially
since I like tulips!

I stamped the tulips in Black StazOn ink on Shimmery White cardstock and then I watercolored them with Crushed Curry, Daffodil Delight and Wild Wasabi inks.  I used
the Circle Framelit to cut out the tulips and Crushed Curry circles and then the Starburst Framelit for the Basic Black piece behind it.  Crushed Curry Chevron ribbon and a sentiment from the hostess set Express Yourself complete the card.

Just a reminder that the Stampin Up Retired List comes out on Monday and it's Free Shipping from April 21-25.  The retired products are all while supplies last.

Hope you enjoy celebrating Easter with your family & friends!

So much can happen in a month...

Hi Stampers,

It's been awhile since I've posted, but the last month has been a little overwhelming for me - after going for my regular check up, I found out at the end of February that I needed to have surgery and that I have cancer and so I will be having treatment for that starting next week.  The prognosis is really good, but that along with some post-op complications has meant that everything else has had to take a back seat to getting well.  A little over three weeks after surgery, I'm finally starting to feel better and up to posting again.  I would like to thank all my family and friends for all their visits, cards, flowers and meals for us - it means so much to me!

Today's card is one that I cased from somewhere on the web a while back.  I love the colors in this card, which uses the Fresh Prints DSP Stack from the Occasions catalog as the color pallette - Real Red, Coastal Cabana and Crumb Cake .  I stamped the Vivid Vases single stamp on Whisper White cardstock and then again on several of the patterns in the stack and then cut the vases out and paper pieced them onto the white.  You can do this with any DSP and it will look different.  I attached the piece of DSP as the background and then the Coastal Cabana piece and then used Dimensionals to pop the white piece off the Coastal Cabana and accented it with a button from the In Color buttons.  The sentiment is from the set A Dozen Thoughts.  I love this paper stack and the cheerful colors and the vase single stamp is also so cute.

This set makes me think that spring is finally on the way - at least I hope so after the terrible winter we had here in Chicago.  It seems like spring won't ever get here, but I'm hoping it will - soon!  I would appreciate your good wishes and prayers as I start chemo and as I look forward to Jordan and Lisa's wedding next month!

Great minds...

Hi Stampers,

I hope that you are staying warm - Chicago has been in the deep freeze and knee deep in snow for so long I can't remember what it looks like to not have snow everywhere - we're running out of places to put it now when it snows.

Anyway, I thought I'd share two similar cards with you today - just to show you that great stamping minds think alike - the first one I came up with and the second one my friend and fellow demonstrator Sue came up with for our meeting in January.

Mine used Strawberry Slush, Whisper White and Silver Foil as the colors and the Sale-a-bration set Banner Blast as well as the matching punch and the Decorative Dots Embossing folder- each of which you can get for FREE during Sale-a-bration with a $50 order - ask me how you can get yours!  I stamped and/or punched the images out and strung them on a piece of White Baker's Twine - a simple card for Valentine's Day,  I accented the love banner with a Rhinestone.

The second card by Sue uses  a similar color palette of Real Red and Strawberry Slush only with Silver Glitter paper and Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine - also accented with a Rhinestone and some extra hearts as well.

Just goes to show you that great minds think alike and that there's always similar ideas floating around in the stamping world.

Happy Valentine's Day and Stay Warm!

Super Birthday!

Hi Stampers,

Well, around our house we are big sports fans and watch a lot of sporting events (usually with our hometown Cubs, Bears, Bulls and of course my Blackhawks), but we are also looking forward to the Olympics.  But of course, today we watch the Super Bowl at home with family and friends - eating lots of food and watching the game and the commercials.

In that spirit, today I am sharing my twist on an idea I saw for another sports-themed masculine card, which I'll be sharing with you another time.  This football card uses the punch outs from the Chevron punch for the football laces.  The colors here are Chocolate Chip, Gumball Green and Whisper White.  I used the Square Lattice embossing folder to add some texture to the Chocolate Chip piece before cutting it in this curved design and adding the Chevron punch outs.  I also added some white stars punched out with the Holiday Minis punch pack and the greeting is from Label Love - stamped in Versamark and heat embossed with White embossing powder and punched out using the coordinating Artisan Label punch.

Hope you enjoy the Big Game or at least the commercials!

Keep Stamping,

Sharing some love...

Hi Stampers,

Thanks to the stampers who came to my "All About Love" stamp camp last night - they were able to mostly get home before our latest snowfall started!

We made projects that were all about love - anniversaries, wedding, shower, Valentine's Day.

Here's one of the projects we made - I saw this card online somewhere and really liked it and added my own spin to it:

I used Crumb Cake, Real Red, Basic Black and Whisper White for this card.  I stamped the You & Me from the Perfect Pennants stamp set (Occasions Catalog) in Black and cut it using the Heart Framelits for the Big Shot.  The heart is accented with the heart from the Holiday Minis punch pack and a Rhinestone for some bling.  The arrows are the Chevron border punch (Occasions Catalog) using Basic Black and trimmed in the front for the "V" and backed with a piece of Whisper White and again accented with Rhinestones.   The Crumb Cake piece is "faux stitched" with Basic Black marker - I actually made a chipboard template to do the faux stitching so it would be straight - I just cut a square of chipboard that was the right size to trace around.  the Real Red background piece is textured using the Arrows embossing folder (Occasions Catalog).  The card base is Crumb Cake.

Hope you enjoy this first love card as February begins - there will be more!

Join us for our next stamp camp, where we will be making projects from the Occasions and Sale-a-bration catalogs on Saturday, February 22 at 1:00 p.m.

Angels

Hi Stampers,

December has been a tough month for our family - at the beginning of the month I lost a dear friend and stamping buddy to cancer - we will miss Marie, especially at our stamp camps every month.

Then last weekend, after 18 months,  my mom lost her battle with cancer as well.  Needless to say, stamping and my blog have taken a back seat.    I miss my mom every day, but I am glad that she's no longer in pain and got to spend Christmas with Jesus in heaven.  I'm happy we were able to celebrate my parent's 55th anniversary in October and also that she was able to be with us at Thanksgiving this year.

At my holiday stamp camp, we made these angel ornaments and I made one for my mom to hang in her room.  My mom loved angels and had quite a collection of them so I thought she'd like to see this one - my version was a combination of several I had seen online - made with Whisper White, Soft Sky, Silver Foil, Silver Glitter and Blushing Bride cardstock, using several circle punches, the Gift Bow die, the banner from Petal Cone die (retired), silver ribbon and the Beautiful Baroque embossing folder.

We will celebrate my mom's life next month at a memorial, and I know her Angel Collecting will be mentioned.  While our family tries to adjust to life without our mom, wife, grandma and great-grandma we know we will see her again some day in heaven.
